From his initial sketch I broke off and began to adjust things to my liking. This was a fun little project to really flex my sculpting boundaries. Being an environment artist unfortunately doesn't open many opportunities to sculpt things as organic as this so opportunities to just sink your heart into a sculpt like this is often necessary to get your freehand creativeness going.
