At my time with Gala Games I was given the task to explore the interior sections of the game that we at the time had no modular kits or props to really sell the space within the game.
So as my main responsibility on this project I was to build wall and floor kits that were all versatile and snappable to the grid. After having a kit assembled I then moved onto the next stage of the space which was essentially dressing, but with the lack of props to use we as a team started building whatever props we could in bulk to sell this and all other interior spaces as much as possible.
Thankfully our pipeline/workflow for this project was extremely forgiving on time and fun because it did not require us as artists to have to pump any of our in-game environment art content through a highpoly to lowpoly workflow. This pipeline in which case allowed us to just dive straight into creating assets through traditional modelling and getting things into the space pretty quickly.
In all my years of working in high-poly to lowpoly PBR workflows, I would have never imagined that such a easy pipeline could be so fun, in a nut shell it literally felt like playing with Lego all day and allowed me to focus more on traditional art thought processes instead of being knuckled down into the technical aspect of everything as I would usually do.
I want to thank the wonderful team I had the pleasure working with on this project as we all came into the project with the same mindset that we wanted to build something pretty while having a fun-less-than-stressful workflow and we were able to build quite a lovely looking game with the bare minimum of what we would usually work with.
Also, a special thanks to Sergey Kabanchenko for taking the time out to build an easy-to-use in-game render setup for Unity for our team to quickly grab our work together on our way out, it worked like a charm.
